The world renown piano player and composer Rolando Nicolosi was born to Italian parents in Rosario de Santa Fe’, Argentina and he lives and works in Rome since the early fifties. Although he holds a Degree in Literature and Philosophy, he has pursued a carrier as a musician since his early childhood’s appearances at the Colon theatre in Buenos Aires.
He came to Italy in his teens and became a student of famed Maestro Carlo Zecchi.
His fame grew rapidly all over the world and he plaid with the greatest music conductors the likes of Antal Donati, Thomas Shipeprs, Zubin Metha, Georges Pretre, Carlo Maria Giulini, Tullio Serafin, Gianandrea Gavazzeni and many others.
Since the mid fifties, Maestro Nicolosi has become a popular TV star and he has contributed to boost significantly the popularity of classical music among the general public. As a consultant, repertoire advisor and principal piano player he has worked for the National Radio and Television channels and has accompanied the mayor opera singers of our times from Tito Schipa to Luciano Pavarotti, from Monserrat Caballe’ to Mirella Freni, including Joan Sutherland, Placido Domingo, Lucia Valentini Terrani, Renato Bruson Boris Christoff and almost all the leading artists.
Maestro Nicolosi has also worked with the most important contemporary composers such as Giancarlo Menotti and Nino Rota, with great dancers like Carla Fracci and Rudolf Nureyef, and with movie directors Luchino Visconti and Franco Zeffirelli.
During his carrier Rolando Nicolosi has taken part in numerous international festival all over the world and especially in London, Osaka, Berlin, Wien, Prague, Amsterdam, New York, Washington. He has performed for Heads of State, Royalties and Popes; he has received many honors, awards and even honorary citizenships. Various associations and an international music award bear his name, while he has taken up teaching in various countries especially in the field of opera singing.
The Emperor of Japan awarded him a National honor with the following motivation: “The high professional skills developed during his great, brilliant and ever rising carrier render Maestro Rolando Nicolosi an illustrious personality who brings honor not only to Italy but to the entire world”.
