Shanghai, October 22, 2010 – From October 16 to 26, the Italian Pavilion welcomes its final regional exhibition – the Lombardy Region – to the Shanghai World Expo. Themed “People, the heart of a city: The city in Lombardy’s past and future”, the exhibit interweaves the region’s geography, history and culture to present the synergies that give rise to Lombardy’s unique identity. Echoing the Shanghai Expo and its theme Better City, Better Life, the exhibition brings to the fore Lombardy’s myriad offerings – from its contributions in urban development to its cultural assets – under a concept focused on the crucial role mankind plays in shaping society, the economy and the environment.
At the exhibition’s conclusion, the Italian Pavilion will host a conference celebrating the work of one of Italy’s most brilliant minds: Leonardo da Vinci. Titled ‘Flying with Leonardo’, the conference will discuss the literal and symbolic meanings of flight and the different perspective it affords.
