"Combine technological excellence, love of culture and respect for the environment". An interview with Giorgio Squinzi, CEO of Mapei SpA and President of the Mapei Group

The Expo Shanghai is a window that cannot be give up on Chinese and Asian markets: which are the opportunities for Mapei?

We were chosen for our ability to combine technological excellence, love of culture and respect for the environment, fundamental values for the realisation of the Italian Pavilion. As an official supplier of the Italian Commission General for the Shanghai World Expo 2010, we contributed with products for the piers, wall finishes, adhesives and grouting of laying ceramic tile flooring, sealants and accessory products. This was also made possible by the strong presence of Mapei in China, where we hold various offices and two factories.

Can you tell who is Mapei?

Founded in 1937 in Milan, Mapei today is the world's largest producer of adhesives and complementary products for the installation of floor and wall tiles of all types and is also a specialist in other chemical products for construction such as waterproofing, special mortars and concrete additives products for the recovery of historic buildings. The Group currently consists of 63 industrial companies with subsidiaries operating 56 manufacturing plants in 25 countries on five continents.

Your challenges for the future?

The Mapei Group sees a great opportunity in the Chinese market, taking into account the fact that, currently, only 0.5% of the tiles installed in China is placed using adhesives. At the same time, opening new markets and new opportunities must be seized. Mapei does not change its way: continuous innovation, internationalization and the desire to direct comparison with markets around the world.
